Vulnerability, presence, creating from the void - this 3-week workshop will be a brief but intense exploration of the clown state - less of an introduction to clown performance and more a playful investigation into how clown gives us access to freedom to take pleasure in whatever is being lived, in that moment. This workshop will draw from different clowning traditions to create new narratives and forms of expression. Drawing on sacred clowning as explored in Pochinko’s Clown Through Mask technique and European clown in the tradition of Jacques Lecoq - we will use larval, commedia and neutral masks as the basis for an exploration of different territories which the smallest mask - the clown nose - holds. By harnessing the embodied poetry of the fool in both group and solo work, we will ask what needs to be created to meet the moment, drawing on the ever-unfolding creative matrixes of your inner and outer worlds.
